This week we completed a Mystery Science activity to end our unit on the powerful work of water. Students had to create a hill out of cornmeal. They had to then represent rain and watch what happened. Next, students selected materials to try to slow down or prevent the erosion of their hill. Students observed to see if there was any difference. See pictures below! This week we completed a Mystery Science activity exploring the question, "Why is there sand on the beach?" Students had great discussion and we thought of multiple different ideas. Then, students acted as a river and modeled the process of rocks moving down a river during a rainstorm, breaking down into smaller pieces until they eventually became sand on a beach. We then looked at different colored sands/beaches and discussed what we knew about the rocks that created that sand. Check out pictures below! |
